4 killed, 17 hurt in Gaibandha road crash


Four people died and 17 others were injured in a road accident on the Bogra-Rangpur highway yesterday.

The dead are Badsa Mia, 55, of Ambari village, Meher Ali, 56, of Banshkata village, and Abdus Sobhan, 42, and Anisur Rahman, 14, of Moheshpur village under Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha.

Police and locals said the accident occurred at around 3:00pm when a Dhaka-bound passenger coach rammed two buffalo carts near Moheshpur Brac office in Polashbari upazila, killing four passengers of the two carts on the spot.

At least 17 passengers of both the buffalo carts and the coach were injured in the accident. The injured are undergoing treatment at Polashbari Upazila Health Complex.

Police seized the coach, but its driver and helper managed to flee.

An unidentified person died and three others were injured when a speeding bus hit them at Kalitala under Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha yesterday afternoon, according to the UNB.

The injured are undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex.
