13 Myanmar nationals held at Ijtema

Law enforcers yesterday held 13 Myanmar nationals from the Biswa Ijtema ground at Tongi for entering Bangladesh territory without legal papers but released them later.

The police control room at the Ijtema, however, could not give any details about the Myanmar Rohingyas. A duty officer at the control room told The Daily Star that they did not keep any record of the Myanmar nationals and asked this correspondent to contact Tongi Police Station.

When contacted, Tongi police said no foreign nationals were sent to the police station.

According to police officials and witnesses, the Detective Branch (DB) of police on suspicion caught one Mahibur from the venue at noon. Following his statement, the DB and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) caught 12 others, said news agency BDNEWS.

Of the detainees, five were identified as Mahibur Rahman, 50, of village Luijahingh in Nongo thana, Karimullah, 40, of village Zorhali in Tongro thana, Mohammad Ali, 23, of village Twan in Kinari thana, and Zikir Ahmed, 22, and Ruhul Kabir of Mondo thana.
