Fugitive convict arrested


The members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a fugitive convict, who was sentenced to death in a sensational case of five murders, from near his house at Bagra village in Srinagar upazila on Wednesday.

The convict, Faruq, was given the death penalty in absentia along with 14 others in the case of murder of UP chairman Monowar Ali and four others.

The judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka sentenced 15 people to death and nine others to life imprisonment in a verdict on July 12, 2005.

The judge also sentenced 12 people to two years' rigorous imprisonment in the same case.
