January 28, 2006       StarTech An earth-like planet The picture released January 25 by the European Southern Observatory shows an artist's impression of the most Earth-like planet so far discovered outside the solar system. Scientists using a technique derived from Albert Einstein's theories have detected the icy, rocky world dubbed OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb, which is 5.5 times the size of Earth and orbits a red dwarf 28,000 light-years away.
