Businessman stabbed to death at Uttara

Unknown criminals killed a trader at Uttara, while in two other incidents a police constable and two security personnel were stabbed and bullet-wounded at Shyampur and Dhanmondi in the city last night.

Mohammad Tarek, 45, owner of an electric fan factory in Old Dhaka, was returning to his house at sector-4 in Uttara by rickshaw at around 8:00pm when some unknown men stabbed him from behind.

He was rushed to a local clinic and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors declared him dead at 11:25pm.

Tarek's relatives suspected that extortionists killed him as he was constructing a house at Uttara.

Meantime, some muggers stabbed Constable Faruq Hossain, 25, at Postogola in Shyampur inside a cotton mill at 7:30pm.

In another incident, some unknown youths shot security guards Mohammad Parvez, 28, and Abdul Khalek, 30, of Atlas security agency. The two guards were trying to close a house at road No. 12 (New) in Dhanmondi, which the youths were trying to enter at 7:15pm.

The three wounded were admitted to DMCH.
