Bring contempt charge against PM, law minister
SC Bar urges CJ
Bdnews, Dhaka
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) yesterday urged the chief justice to bring a contempt charge against the prime minister and the law minister and others concerned for "violating the Supreme Court directives" in judiciary separation case. "The government has been committing contempt of court since October 20, 2005, seeking time extension for separation of the judiciary from the executive. The government's move to seek time further in this regard is contemptuous. It (government) has no right to remain in power," SCBA President Advocate Mahbubey Alam said. He was presiding over a meeting after forming a human chain at the entrance to the Supreme Court in the morning. The meeting condemned the government for making delay in implementing the 12-point directive of the Supreme Court for separating the judiciary from the executive.
