Outlaws demand toll from Agrani bank branches in Khulna

Extremists of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) Janajuddha faction again demanded tolls from six more branches of the state-owned Agrani Bank in Khulna district on Thursday.

Senior Principal Officer of the bank's regional office Nurul Bashar Khan said a person identifying himself as a Janajuddha activist demanded Tk 20,000 from the managers of each branch "for the treatment of their injured cadres".

The PBCP man also threatened to kill the managers of Khulna corporate branch, New Market branch, Jessore Road branch, Shamsur Rahman Road branch, Rupsha Strand Road branch and Doulatpur branch of the bank if the money is not paid by tomorrow.

"I received death threats twice on Thursday--in the morning and at noon," said Abdur Razzak, manager of the Shamsur Rahman Road branch of Agrani Bank.

No written complaints in this regard were filed with any police stations. Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Akbar Ali said investigation will begin after receiving written complaints.

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has been informed of the incident.

Earlier on Tuesday night, a Janajuddha activist demanded a toll of Tk 10,000 from the Kajdia branch manager of Agrani Bank.
