Aly Zaker gets Radio Veritas award

Noted drama and cultural personality Aly Zaker has been awarded the Radio Veritas Asia Bangla Service Council Award 2005 for his contribution to promoting communal harmony and human development at home and abroad.

He received a crest from Vatican Ambassador to Dhaka Archbishop Paul Chang-In Nam and a certificate from Archbishop of Dhaka Paulinus Costa at the concluding ceremony of the 25th anniversary of Radio Veritas Asia Bangla Service Council at the Notre Dame College in the city yesterday.

Radio Veritas Asia General Manager Father Carlos Laroza, Council Secretary Father Kamal Corraya and its high officials from Dhaka and Kolkata attended the programme.

A listeners' conference was also held at the college. More than 300 listeners from across the country joined the conference.

Receiving the award, Aly Zaker said he always tries to promote the human values and universality of human spirit through his dramas and other activities.

Archbishop Paulinus Costa said the meaning of Veritas is truth. "It is the truth that frees humans and the broadcasting station is part of efforts to spread the message of truth to the people."

He called on all to uphold human dignity and promote communal harmony in this region.

Radio Veritas Asia is a Philippines-based broadcasting station supported by the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conference.
