Section 144 imposed in Palashbari to skirt trouble

Palashbari upazila administration imposed section 144 yesterday to avoid clash as upazila JCD and Shibir called meetings at the same venue and same time.

Restrictions were imposed on holding any political meeting and gathering at Palashbari Piyeri Girls' High School ground from 8:00am to 12:00midnight yesterday where Palashbari upazila Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) were scheduled to hold meetings at the venue at 3:00pm.

Apprehending potential confrontation between the two rival groups, the upazila administration imposed the restrictions. However, a tense situation is still prevailing among the activists of both groups.

Earlier, both parties attacked each other several times in the last two years over establishing supremacy ahead of the general election, which killed one and injured seven others of the both groups during the period.
