SCBA condemns mass arrests during long march

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) yesterday strongly condemned and protested the blanket arrest of the leaders, workers and supporters of Awami League-led 14-party combine by the law enforcement agencies during the long march to Dhaka across the country.

SCBA President Advocate Mahbubey Alam and Secretary Advocate M Enayetur Rahim in a statement said the government arrested and detained hundreds of opposition leaders, workers and supporters to foil the planned long march of the opposition.

"Holding meetings and oganising assemblies by the political parties are constitutional rights. The government is violating the constitution by obstructing the opposition, and arresting and harassing their leaders and workers during the long march," they said.

The SCBA leaders demanded immediate release of the arrested and detained leaders and workers.
