Accused escapes from custody in Barisal

An accused fled away from police custody just after arrest on Thursday.Zamshed Talukder, 30, accused for torturing woman, fled away with handcuff by jumping into the Kirtonkhola river. Police and witnesses said, a police team led by sub-inspector (SI) Shishir of Barisal Kotwali Police Station arrested Zamshed, an wanted person at Karnakati village in Charkawa union situated on the eastern bank of the kirtonkhola at night. When police was crossing the river by ferryboat to reach Barisal city on the western bank of the river, Zamshed jumped to mid-stream and succeeded to flee. When contacted, both the additional superintendent of police (ASP) Qaimuzzaman and the Barisal Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Zillur Rahman said search operation is going on to re-arrest the fugitive. They also said action would be taken against the policemen responsible for the incident. Earlier, Lokman Hossain, a robber was arrested from a launch by a team of armed police at Chhabipur station under Muladi on January 16. Later, he jumped into the river with two cops. A shotgun with six rounds of ammunition of constable Delwar was lost. However, those were recovered from the riverbed Tuesday noon. Both the criminals are at large till writing of this report Friday afternoon.
