Resolve all issues thru' discussions
Bhuiyan urges opposition

BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan in a statement yesterday urged the opposition to discard confrontational programmes and come up to resolve all issues through discussions in or outside parliament.

"The old way of realising demands through movement is now ineffective. The country's print and electronic media are totally free. So the opportunity to use leaflets, posters and public meetings has increased significantly to mobilise public opinion for realising demands," he said.

Bhuiyan, also the LGRD minister, said the general election is going to be held in due time under the caretaker government within next few months.

"People will give their verdict in the elections. Under the circumstances, confrontational programmes causing miseries to the people are unnecessary," he said apparently referring to the opposition's long march.

"Besides, our good intention to talk to the opposition about their demands is clear to the nation. So, we are repeatedly urging the opposition to sit in and outside parliament for discussions," Bhuiyan said.

He said when there is an opportunity to reach an understanding regarding the demands, the efforts of creating confrontation will only raise a question in public mind.

"People have been observing that confrontational programmes and provocation only contribute to instability," the BNP leader said, adding, "Apart from people's miseries, such programmes discourage local and foreign investments, and hamper production. This cannot be expected in today's changed world."

He said in order to attract honest and patriots to politics the hegemony of black money and confrontational environment will have to go.
