Bar asks CJ for action against judge with 'political link'

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Secretary M Enayetur Rahim yesterday sent a letter to Acting Chief Justice Mohammad Ruhul Amin, seeking effective steps against a judge for his alleged political prance.

The Bar took the move as news paper reports on sitting Dhaka Divisional Special Judge Mohammad Rezaul Karim Chunnu's alleged political activities and campaign for getting BNP ticket from Kishoreganj sadar constituency in the next general elections evoked sharp reaction among the lawyers of the apex court.

Enclosed with the letter were newspaper clippings covering the political speeches and interviews given by Chunnu at his constituency as ready reference for justifying the complaint, the SCBA leader said.

He made a plea in the petition that measures should be taken for 'upholding the image and dignity of the judiciary'.

Talking to the news agency, Rahim pointed out that sitting judges are barred from making any political statement and getting involved in political activities.
