New home makes 'em happy

Habibul Bashar's men made their debut at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur when they performed their first net session on fresh pitches yesterday.

The new home of Bangladesh cricket has yet to get the approval of the ICC due to unfinished constructions but the Tigers were excited seeing the outfield and surface.

A total of eight pitches have been installed in the middle and Dav Whatmore's charges, who are preparing for the coming home series against Sri Lanka, used three on the first day where bowlers enjoyed most because of the movement offered by the newly prepared turfs.

"It is really exciting that we can now practice in our home. Understandably there were uneven bounces in the central pitches but it would be okay in time. What impressed me most was the greenish outfield which is not so common in our country," said captain Bashar.

Star batsman Mohammad Ashraful also echoed with his captain and said that he felt comfortable with the fact that they are going to get an exclusive stadium for cricket.

"Since we have lost the possession of the Bangabandhu National Stadium, we felt like being homeless. Now we have got our new home to use only for cricket. The ground is fantastic although it is yet to be completed," said the ace batter.

Pace spearhead Mashrafee Bin Mortuza, however, was highly delighted as he got assistance from the pitches.

"I was really enjoying my bowling on the grassy wickets. The venue is fantastic. It looked nice to me," said the Narail Express.
