Ranjan reaches 2nd round

Ranjan Ram was the only Bangladeshi player among 16 to reach the second round of the boys' singles in the Dhaka Bank Inter-national Junior Tennis Champion-ship yesterday.

Ranjan, who defeated Buceta Parro Alejandro of Spain 7-6, 6-1 in the first round at the National Tennis Complex in Ramna, will take on fourth seed Rungat Christopher of Indonesia today.

Mazharul Islam and Henry Prithul Mondol, who lifted the doubles title in the BKSP version of the competition last month, were the two local players ousted from the first round. Prithul will once again pair with Chinese Taipei's Wang in the doubles competition. The first-round doubles matches will begin today.

Sultana Israt, the lone Bangla-deshi girl participating in the singles, lost to Datla Tejaswani of India 6-2, 6-0.

A total of 32 first round games in boys' and girls' group were decided yesterday.
