US team in city to examine prospect

A four-member delegation from a US-based consortium of investors arrived in Dhaka to examine the prospect of introducing a sky-train system in and around the capital with an investment of around $1 billion.The members of the delegation will hold meetings with the authorities concerned during their three-day visit to apprise the government high-ups of the project, a senior official of the Board of Investment (BoI) told the news agency. Earlier, the consortium submitted a project concept paper to the Board of Investment (BoI). The delegation, led by American Transport System Corporation (ATSC) Chairman Norbert Von Boode, arrived here on Sunday. Bombardier Transportation Director Jonathan Goddard is among the delegation members. Two other members of the delegation--Herve Laumond and Michel Oliveres--arrived here yesterday. The delegation is scheduled to hold talks on the possibility of sky-train with BRTC Chairman Advocate Taimur Alam Khondaker and BoI Executive Chairman Mahmudur Rahman tomorrow.
