Bangladeshi documentaries in Mumbai Int'l Festival


Four documentary films by Bangladeshi directors have been invited to the Mumbai International Documentary Festival that began on February 3. The films are: Karnophulir Kanna and Bonojatri by Tanvir Mokammel, Rokeya by Manzar-e Haseen Murad and Shei Raater Kotha Boltey Eshechhi by Kawsar Chowdhury.

Karnophulir Kanna highlights the issues of indigenous people living by the river Karnophuli in the Hill Tracts and facing injustice when it comes to their land and identity. Bonojatri focuses on the Sundar- bans. Rokeya is a documentary on the life and philosophies of the legendary women's rights activist Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain. Shei Raater Kotha Boltey Eshechhi features the atrocities by the Pakistani army in Dhaka on the fateful night of March 25, 1971.

The festival, known as the biggest film festival for documentaries in the subcontinent will end on February 10.
