Businessmen lynch Demra extortionist

Businessmen last night lynched an alleged extortionist when he went to collect tolls from a shop at Demra in the capital.The dead was identified as Sumon, 28, of North Jatrabari. Sumon along with three others went to the store of Nasir Traders at Golapbagh in Demra at 7:30pm and demanded Tk 1 lakh from its owner Nasir, said local businessmen. "He [Sumon] was holding a revolver in his hand to terrorise the employees of the store," locals quoted Nasir as saying. The extortionists ran for lives as a number of businessmen rushed to the spot hearing Nasir's cry for help. Sumon fired several blank shots to make his way out of the market but locals held him with the revolver. The angry businessmen beat Sumon to death on the spot. Police sent the dead body to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
