The United States has reiterated its support for Bangladesh in the fight against terrorism."We stand with the Bangladesh government in their fight against terrorism. We believe it's a common fight for us all," said US State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack during daily press briefing in Washington on Tuesday. Replying to a question on government's crackdown on the banned terrorist organisation, JMB, the Spokesman said he knows that the Bangladesh government is dealing with an issue of terrorism. On another question whether the US government is supportive of this action by the government, he replied " I can't speak to any specific actions that the Bangladesh government may have taken to combat the terrorist threat there, but we do stand with the Bangladesh people in the fight against terror." When asked about the forthcoming election and opposition's demand for reforms in caretaker system and what move would US take for peaceful election, Sean McCormack said, "In terms of this specific move, I'd have to look into it for you. And my initial reaction is to say how the Bangladeshi political class chooses to array itself and whether it chooses to participate in an election or in a parliament, that is up to those involved in leading those political movements -- peaceful political movements."
