Criminal killed in Mirpur 'crossfire'

An alleged criminal was killed in 'crossfire' during a shootout between Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and criminals at Paikpara of Mirpur in the capital yesterday.Accompanying Alamgir Hossain Ali, 33, who was arrested earlier, a Rab team went to Habuler Pukurpar in Paikpara at around 3:30am to recover his hidden weapons and arrest his accomplices, Rab said. When the squad reached the spot, Alamgir's accomplices opened fire on Rab men, prompting them to retaliate. Trying to escape, Alamgir fell on the line of fire, received four bullets in his chest, and died on the spot, Rab said, adding that a cut rifle and a pistol were seized from the spot. Rab said the deceased was a dreaded criminal of Mirpur area and accused in a number of cases for different crimes. His body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
