Sports Reporter
Golfer Md Siddiqur Rahman, popular in the circuit as Siddique, left Dhaka last Sunday to avail of a luxury not many Bangladeshis have the opportunity to do often. He is the defending champion of the All-India Amateur Championships, a feat he earned last year in the tournament's 104th meet. The 105th meet is taking place from February 7-15. Siddique's most recent international acquisition has been the championship trophy of the 118th Sri Lankan Open held from 25-28 January. He played level par. Siddique of Kurmitola Golf Club also reigns as the champion of the SAARC Amateur held at Kandy and the 2nd Nepal Amateur Open, both held last year. 2005 had been good to him, as he picked up the champion's trophy in the Bangladesh Amateur (playing four under) and the runner-up prize of the Pakistan National Championships. In 2004 Siddique won the 1st Nepal Amateur Open. The absolute consistency in Siddique's game has made him the number one ranked amateur golfer in the region, no mean feat for anybody.
