'A Field Guide to Bangladeshi Flowers' launched


Asiatic Society of Bangladesh launched its newly published book titled 'A Field Guide to Bangladeshi Flowers' by renowned flower researcher NS Nowroz Jahan at the Society seminar room in the city on Tuesday to promote interest and love for Bangladeshi flowers, says a press release.

President of the Society Professor Emajuddin Ahmed presided over the function addressed among others by Dr Sajahan Miah, Prof Mahbubur Rahman of Dhaka University, Agricultural Scientist Dr Noazesh Ahmed and Director General of Bangladesh National Herbarium Dr Matiur Rahman.

The book contains description of about 600 species and varieties of flowers belonging to 118 families found in the country. It provides necessary information about plants, leaves, flowers, inflorescence, fruit and root.

Information about propagation and medicinal qualities has also been described while every flower has been introduced with a local name, followed by its botanical and family name.

The main purpose of the book is to introduce flower plants and flowers of Bangladesh with the general readers who have fancy of flowers. It will also be useful for the students of schools and colleges.

The book will cost Tk 4,000.

Former Secretary Hasinur Rahman and former Ambassador Syed Nur Hossain and Harunur Rashid were also present among prominent cultural and academic luminaries, students, researchers and members of the society.
