Police and witnesses said the accident took place when a Singair-bound wood-laden truck from Dhaka was crossing the bailey bridge at Kiting Char area.

The truck plunged into the water killing two babies Sampa, 9, and Zohurul, 3, and injuring three others who were taking bath.

Injured Julekha Begum was rushed to Singair Health Complex and two others were taken to Savar hospital.

Road communications between Dhaka and Singair were snapped.
