Fault in Desa transmission line causes loadshedding

An underground 132 kv transmission line between Ulon and Dhanmondi substations of Dhaka Electric Supply Authority (Desa) tripped yesterday, leading to a severe load shedding in the capital.

Desa officials said the fault in the city's key transmission line came as a big blow to the entire electricity system in Dhaka.

Another similar capacity underground transmission line at the same location faced breakdown in January, which is yet to be repaired.

The disruption in the second transmission line that occurred at 5:18am forced the Desa to go for 300 to 400MW load shedding in some areas, including Karwan-bazar, Green Road, Dhan-mondi, Paribagh, Nawabpur, Segunbagicha, Mouchak, Mali-bagh, Fakirapool, Mohammadpur and Elephant Road.

The Desa officials said power is being supplied to the areas through some alternative lines, but failed to say when they will be able to fix the fault and restore power supply.
