Dhaka seeks close ties with South African nations


Developing countries in Southern African region can benefit from closer cooperation with Bangladesh in areas like trade and human resources development.

Newly accredited Bangladesh High Commissioner to Botswana and Mozambique Nasima Haider made the remarks when she recently met the Presidents of Botswana and Mozambique to present her credentials to them in their respective capitals.

During the meetings with the two presidents, she highlighted the key areas on which Bangladesh and these two countries can cooperate with each other for their mutual benefits.

Nasima, High Commissioner to South Africa, is also accredited to Botswana and Mozambique along with Zimbabwe, Angola, Namibia and Zambia.

She said Bangladeshi doctors, engineers, architects, dentists and teachers may contribute significantly to fulfilling the demand for skilled professionals in their countries.

These two countries could import pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh to meet the demand for quality drugs at affordable prices, she added.

Appreciating the offer, the two presidents showed interest to forge greater cooperation with Bangla-desh in various fields, including trade and commerce.

President of Botswana showed interest in taking more Bangladeshi professionals while the President of Mozambique was keen in cooperation in the fields of disaster management and training of its officials responsible for managing natural disaster.

They also showed their governments readiness to learn from Bangladesh's achievements in micro-credit for the empowerment of women.
