World Water Day today

World Water Day will be observed in the country today as elsewhere around the globe. This year, Department of Public Health Engineering, NGO Forum for Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation, the World Health Organisation, Unicef and WSP, the World Bank are jointly observing the Day with due importance. To observe the Day nationwide different programmes have been chalked out, including national seminar, symposium, rally, cultural programmes highlighting the water issues. A national seminar entitled " Water and Culture: Where we are" will be held at 10:00am at IDB Bhaban (3rd floor) on the Day. The key issues to be discussed in the seminar will focus on cultural aspects of water with special reference to safe water supply. The UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in his message on the Day said, "Water is not only essential for life. It is also a wide-ranging cultural presencean inspiration for artists, a focus of science research, and an indispensable element in the religious rituals of many traditions and faiths." Meanwhile, a cultural pro-gramme will be organised at 1:00pm at Rabindra Sorobor Moncha in the city.
