Introducing urban school children to folk songs
The Pally Baul Samaj Unnayan Sangstha (PBSUS) promotes and preserves our folk traditions in music. Its vision is to preserve and revive the authentic cultural traditions of the Baul artistes of Bangladesh. The organisation recently went to 15 different schools in Dhaka to introduce school students to the "music of our roots" and musical instruments traditionally used while performing folk songs. The event featured 10 types of folk music instruments. Baul Nayon, Babul Sarkar, Baul Rubi and Baul Alam Sarkar performed at these live musical events. PBSUS works with the American Embassy in these awareness programmes, adds a press release.
