Musical evenings at Bengal Shilpalaya

The Bengal Foundation organised musical evenings at Bengal Shilpalaya, Dhanmondi on March 20, 21 and yesterday. The foundation has been making continuing efforts to uphold and promote traditional Bangla music through quality programmes.The programme on March 20 featured Tagore, Nazrul, adhunik and folk songs with a common theme of 'nationalism'. ATM Janhangir performed Tagore songs and Mofizur Rahman presented Nazrul songs. Jhuma Khandokar and Fakir Shumon performed adhunik while Shyamol Kumar Paul rendered folk songs. Artiste Subir Nandi was the moderator of the programme. An album of folk songs performed by artiste Ramkanai Das titled, Shurodhunir Kinaraye, was launched on March 21. The singer performed songs from the album at the programme. The special guest at the event was Wahidul Haque. On March 22, a musical soiree featuring classical instrumental music was held. Kireet Khan and Vidyut Khan on sitar and sarod entertained the audience with their skillful performance.
