In Bangladesh presently we are losing a good number species of trees or plants which are endangered due to the deteriorating ecological balance. I was just a couple of weeks ago that I was delighted after seeing the 'Daud Mordan' - (local name), an attractive shrub on the premises of the Dhaka University Botany Department Plants Conservation Centre in Curzon Hall area. Though we locally called it 'Daud Mordan' but it is popularly known as Candle Bush as well as Seven Golden Candlesticks. Its scientific name is Senna alata, Cassia alata and family name Caesalpinioideae / Caesalpiniaceae. The tree usually grows up to 3 metre . Leaves are simple pinnate and fold together at night. The use of the tree in our country as a medicinal plant is common. It is widely used to cure skin diseases. Its boiled leaves are also used to treat high-blood pressure. Its leaves are used to treat fungal infections such as ringworm.
