Maoists kill 13 in landmine attack in India
Afp, New Delhi
At least 13 civilians were killed when Maoist rebels blew up their vehicle with a landmine, mistaking it to be a police jeep in eastern India, police said yesterday. "The incident happened late Friday night when people were returning from a market. At least six civilians have died and four are injured," a police superintendent, who did not wish to be named, told AFP by phone from Raipur, capital of Chattisgarh state. "The rebels attacked the vehicle thinking it was a police jeep," he said. The official said there could be more casualties as police were still investigating the attack in Kanker district, about 135 kilometres (85 miles) from Raipur.
