Properties worth Tk 1 cr damaged Gournadi fire

Fifteen shops were gutted and properties worth Tk 1 crore damaged in a devastating fire at Mahilara Bazar on Barisal-Dhaka highways under Gournadi upazila here yesterday. Fire service and police sources said the fire originated from Makka Traders, a wholesale shop, and rapidly spread to the bazar at about 4:00am. Fire Services from Gournadi station rushed to the spot and after two and half hours of efforts with the help of local people extinguished the fire at 6:30am. Seventeen people were injured while trying to extinguish the fire.
