Jessore Jubo Dal leader injured in bomb attack

Two persons were inured, one of them seriously, as unidentified criminals hurled bombs on them at Barandipara Banshakola area in Jessore town yesterday. Critically injured was identified as former Jubo Dal leader Shafiqul Islam Ripon, 30, son of Waliar of the area. Ripon was expelled from Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal. The other injured was rickshawpuller Rafique, 18, of the same area. The bombs blew off the left hand and left leg of Ripon while Rafique got minor injuries from splinters of the bombs. Rafique said as the Jubo Dal leader got down from the rickshaw some unidentified criminals waiting there hurled three bombs at him which hit the left side of his body. The injured were rushed to Jessore General Hospital. Doctors on duty told the journalists that the condition of Ripon was critical. There was a little hope of his survival. Local people and the police said there were two more attempts on his life earlier. He had rivalry with his opponents for establishing supremacy in the area, they added.
