Cop among 5 hurt in pro-BNP workers' clash

At least five people including a policeman were injured in a clash between two factions of local Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal in Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh.

The clash broke out at 8:00pm when the factions of the labour wing of ruling BNP brought out processions to drum up support for the meetings at Gafargaon Railway Station at the same time today.

During the fight, police lobbed teargas and opened fire on the activists to take control of the situation.

Sub-inspector Ataur Rahman is among the injured.

Of the meetings, one was called to accord a reception to Bangladesh Medical Association President MA Hadi, who aspires to be a lawmaker from the constituency on ruling BNP ticket. The faction of Sidduqur Rahman, who contested last year's election as the BNP candidate, called the other one. Siddiqur faction is bitterly opposed to Hadi's seeking nomination for the next polls.
