Citizens' body discusses 15-yr Vision Paper for Bangladesh

The "Citizen's Group for a Vision for Bangladesh" at its first meeting yesterday decided on the scopes and modalities for preparing the Vision Paper for Bangladesh for the next 15 years. The meeting, held at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) office in the city, also discussed how to promote competent candidates in the forthcoming election. The group, formed on March 20, also appraised the CPD's pre-election activities. It decided to include M Hafizuddin Khan, Advocate Sultana Kamal and Angela Gomes as new members into the group. Professor Rehman Sobhan, chairman of the CPD and convenor of the citizen's committee, chaired the meeting. The meeting was attended by Fazle Hasan Abed, Abul Ahsan, Dr Anisuzzaman, Samson H Chowdhury, Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, Syed Manzur Elahi, M Mujibul Huq, Dr Mahmuda Islam, Professor Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Mahmudul Islam, Laila Rahman Kabir, Dr Iqbal Mahmud, Latifur Rahman, Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed and ASM Shahjahan. Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, executive director of the CPD, attended the meeting as member secretary of the citizen's committee. The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam and Joint Editor of the daily Prothom Alo Abdul Quayum Mukul were present at the meeting on invitation. The CPD will hold a briefing on the meeting today at 11:00am at its office.
