Bangla Bhai to appear before Chandpur court

A first class magistrate's court yesterday granted permission to produce Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) second-in-command Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai before a Chandpur court in three cases today.Detective Branch (DB) Sub-Inspector (SI) Mainul Islam produced Siddiqul Islam before the court of Magistrate Atiqur Rahman at 11:20am, also seeking permission to show the militant leader arrested in two other cases filed in Bagmara, Rajshahi. Siddiqul Islam will be produced before the Special Tribunal Court, Chandpur today. The court also relieved him from the 10-day remand in an arms case granted on April 9. Earlier, he was taken to the district DB office in Mymensingh at 10:35am amid tight security. Three cases on charges of assaulting the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel, possessing explosives and arms were filed with the Muktagachha Police Station by Rab SI Nazrul Islam following Siddiqul's arrest in Rampur village of Muktagachha on March 6. The militant leader, his wife Fahima Khatun, bodyguard Masud and host Chan Miah were accused in the arms case.
