Our correspondent, Mymensingh
Over 450 diarrhoea patients from different areas of Mymensingh town were admitted to Surjo Kanta (SK) Hospital, an infectious diseases ward of Mymensingh Midical College Hospital (MMCH), till yesterday since the disease broke out in large scale in the town on Thursday. Sixty-eight patients were admitted yesterday. The situation at the hospital is under control and none of the patients died, said Dr Abdul Kader, in-charge of SK hospital. Patients are getting proper treatment and there are adequate stocks of saline and other medicines, he said. Most of the patients came from College Road, Kanchijuli, Puruhit Para and Hori Kishore Roy Road areas in the town. The doctor said the disease broke out abruptly due to contamination of drinking water. But Azizul Haque, who supervises water supply in the town, claimed that the water supplied jointly by the municipality and Department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE) was not contaminated.
