3 criminals killed in 'shootout' with cops

Three alleged criminals were killed in crossfire in Kushtia and Cox's Bazar on Friday and Saturday respectively. Two members of a gang locally known as Faisal-Fahmid Bahini were killed in a crossfire at Gorerepara village in Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia in the early hours of Friday. They were identified as Sabirul Islam, 32, son Fikir Uddin and Mohidul Islam, 28, son of Dabir Uddin of Jamalpur village in Daulatpur,our Kushtia Correspondent reported. Faisal-Fahmid Bahini is involved in criminal activities and smuggling in border areas, police said. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Daulatpur police lead by Officer-In-Charge (OC) Mujibur Rahman raided a house at Jamalpur village at about 4.30 am on Friday when ringleaders Faisal and Mahmud were holding a meeting with the gang. Police arrested Sabirul and Mohidul, recovered one pistol and one rifle but the rest including the ringleaders escape and allegedly crossed the border. Acting on the confession of the arrestees, police along with the two were going to Jamalpur to recover firearms. When they reached Gorerpara, accomplices of the criminals opened fire on them. As police replied with shots, Sabirul and Mohidul were bullet-hit while fleeing. They died while being taken to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex,police claimed. Police retrieved two more pistols and 12 bullets from the spot. Sabirul faces nine cases including four for murder and Mohidul is charged in six cases including three for murder, police said. Unconfirmed sources said Faisal and Fahmid were later arrested by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Nasirpara in Nadia district. Our Cox's Bazar Correspondent reports: A robber was killed in a 'crossfire' between police and his accomplices in Cox's Bazar in the early hours of Saturday. Police said they arrested Abdul Khaled, 34, from Edgon village Friday night. He was wanted in connection with several murder cases. Acting on his confession, they took him to the same spot later on the same night to recover arms. As they approached the spot, his accomplices opened fire. Khaled was killed in a crossfire wen they returned shots, police claimed. Khaled was the son of Ali Akbor of Shiyapara village in Kalirchora upazila.
