2 DU students killed in city

A student of Dhaka University (DU) died falling from a tree on the campus while another student was killed when a train hit him at Khilkhet in the city yesterday. Both the deceased were students of Sanskrit and Pali department and residents of A F Rahman Hall, hall sources said. Alamgir Hossain Sony, 19, a first year student, fell down from a mango tree near the DU Central Mosque at about 1:30am. He along with some friends went out at night to collect mangoes, one of his friends said. Sony was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he died yesterday morning. He was the son of Ibrahim Hossain of Milpara in Kushtia and was an inmate of room 111 of A F Rahman Hall. His parents have taken his body home. Meanwhile, Akhteruzzaman Akhter, a masters student, died on the spot when a speeding train hit him at Khilkhet Railway Station at about 9:40am. He was the son of Haji Nurul Islam Sarder of Khiraikandi under Debidwar upazila in Comilla and was a resident student of room 206 of A F Rahman Hall.
