Over 200 people under the banner of Nagorik Committee confined AKM Masudur Rahman at his residence since Friday evening.

Being informed, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Patuakhali Rabiul Haq rushed to the spot at about 10:00am yesterday and told journalists that the UNO has been removed.

The agitation began after Rahman put the upazila parishad mosque under lock and key on Friday as a sequel to his feud with upazila Magistrate Anwar Hossain.

The agitating people broke the lock and laid a siege to the residence of the UNO demanding his immediate removal.

They brought out a victory procession in the town after hearing the news of removal.

Earlier, they observed a half-day hartal called by the Nagorik Committee.
