Australia to consider setting up visa office in Ctg

Australia will consider setting up a visa office in Chittagong.

Australian High Commissioner Douglas Foskett stated this when he made a courtesy call on Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Saifuzzaman Chowdhury at his office, said a press release yesterday.

The high commissioner assured the CCCI president that henceforth, more visas would be granted to the students seeking higher education in Australia.

He also urged the Bangladeshi professionals to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the new Australian immigration law, which has been simplified recently.

Welcoming the Australian High Commissioner at his office, CCCI President Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said Australia is an important partner in Bangladesh's economic development.

He praised Australia for allowing duty- and quota-free access of Bangladeshi products like knit and woven garments, agricultural products, leather goods, light engineering, ceramics and melamine, and jute goods.

The CCCI president also sought cooperation of the high commissioner in increasing Bangladesh's exports to Australia.
