An army captain killed his London expatriate cousin in the town last night, police said. Police arrested Captain Iffadin Mahbub for killing his cousin Khandakar Iffat Elahi, 40, allegedly for a dispute over his affair with Elahi's sister. Police said Captain Mahbub last night called Elahi, a businessman who had returned home recently from London, out of his house and killed him at an unknown place. The killer dumped the body at Rathbari in Mahiganj area of the town. While returning to cantonment, the captain lost control of the vehicle and met an accident near Mahiganj Shahid Minar. Locals rushed to rescue him and seeing blood in the car held him on suspicion. He was then handed over to the police. Meantime, the locals of Rathbari found the body. Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur Sadar Police Station Bazlur Rashid told reporters that Captain Mahbub admitted to his crime. Police said Elahi had wanted to take his younger sister, Mahbub's fiancée, to London but the captain did not want her to go. He killed Elahi to resist him from taking her abroad, the OC told the press.
