Kushtia lawyers sue an editor for defamation

Leaders of Kushtia Bar Association (KBA) filed a defamation case against the founder, editor-publisher and the acting editor of a Kushtia based daily.

General Secretary of KBA Nurul Islam Dulal filed the defamation case on Thursday with a magistrate's court accusing the founder Alauddin Ahmed, editor and publisher Gazi Mahbub Rahman and acting editor Jamal Uddin Haidari.

According to sources, Daily Ajker Alo ran a news on May 3 headlined, "Judge assaulted for not granting bail: Nine Kushtia lawyers appeared before High Court in a court violation case."

On May 7, KBA leaders served a legal notice to the daily saying the news false, baseless, and fabricated and asked the daily to apologise within 36 hours or face legal action.

The daily however published a rejoinder within 14 hours but KBA leaders alleged the paper had not done enough.
