Dainik Andolaner Bazar, local daily of Kushtia, is still unable to publish following Tuesday's attack on its press and continued threats from cadres of ruling BNP lawmaker Shahidul Islam.Shahidul, in a meeting held on Kushtia Public Library ground on Wednesday night, asked all printing presses in the district not to print the Dainik Andolaner Bazar. Shahidul said Andolaner Bazar was running news to sully his image. The paper cannot be allowed to publish anymore, he added. Editor of the daily Manjur Ehsan Choudhury, now in Dhaka fearing attacks on his life, said, "Local administration did not provide us any security despite our appeal for protection." Reporters and employees of the daily went to superintendent of police (SP) of Kushtia yesterday seeking security measures for them. "The SP only assured us of regular police patrol but no measures for round the clock vigil," Executive Editor of the newspaper Anisuzzaman told The Daily Star. Reporters of the daily are scared to move around in the town due to threats from Shahidul's cadres, he added. Around 20 cadres stormed the Quality Press at Courtpara in the town at 5:00am on Tuesday when the press was printing Dainik Andolaner Bazar. The cadres attacked the press employees and snatched the tracing papers required to print the newspaper. Since then no issues of the daily has come out.
