RU staffs' strike ends

Three-day work abstention of Rajshahi University officials and employees under the banner of Officer and Karmachari Oikya Parishad ended yesterday.

The abstention to press their five-point demands almost paralised administrative and academic activities with no classes and examinations held in the last three days.

The employees yesterday besieged the administrative building and staged a demonstration rally in front of it.

In the rally the leaders announced that they would initiate fresh agitation programme and threatened of indefinite work abstention if their demands are not met with in June 25.

Their demand included immediate confirmation of jobs of 31 employees who were appointed on January 15, 2002, extension of service age to 65 years and annulment of the decision to cut 20 percent pension.

Council President Mirza Wazed Hosain Begg, General Secretary Ayub Ali and Council Leaders Anwar Hossain Manik and Mohammad Shahajada addressed the rally.
