The Awami League (AL)-led 14-party opposition coalition yesterday brought out a procession in the town and tried to lay siege to the district election office housed at the Collectorate building here.Leaders and activists of the opposition coalition brought out the procession as part of a countrywide programme demanding resignation of chief election commissioner (CEC) MA Aziz and two election commissioners. Earlier, a strong contingent of police was deployed at the main entrance of the Collectorate building. The processionists engaged in a scuffle with police there. But police foiled their bid. Later, a meeting was held near the gate of the Collectorate building. AL district convener Jonab Ali presided the meeting. Speakers bitterly critisised the CEC for still holding the post. Among others, Upazila AL secretory Advocate Momtazul Islam, Workers Party District unit secretary Tapan Kumar Roy, NAP District unit secretary Saidur Rahman Shah and District JSD president Prof Azizul Islam.
