Date-expired polio vaccine recovered in Khagrachhari


At least 84 date-expired vials of polio vaccine were recovered from Ramgour upazila recently.

Dr Alamgir, WHO officer and In-Charge of Global Alliance Vaccine Immunisation Project, Chittagong Hill Tracts, seized the vials at Kalapani Polio Centre at Hapchhari union in Ramgour upazila and Ramgour Health Complex.

A four-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter.

Sources said, Dr Alamgir at first detected two date expired vials of polio vaccine during an inspection to Kalapani Polio Centre in Hapchhari union, Ramgour upazila.

Later, he sized 82 more date-expired vials at EPI Sector of Ramgour Health Complex.

Khagrachhari civil surgeon (CS) office sources said, Dr Belayet, a medical officer will head the four-member committee as its chairman.

Other members are Dr Alamgir of Global Alliance Vaccine Immulisation, EPI facilitator Kabir Hossain and district EPI supervisor Sahadev Barua.

The team already visited the spots but yet to submit its report.

On contact, Khagrachhari civil surgeon Dr Abu Taher said to this correspondent the vaccine which was kept in refrigerator might have been wasted due to frequent power failure. 'Action will be taken on receipt of the report of the investigation committee', he said.
