Shubarna Chowdhury
Depicting seasonal diversity in songs

Shubarna Chowdhury is an upcoming artiste whose first album featuring Tagore and Nazrul songs created a buzz. Very few albums combine works by both masters and to be able to render songs of both genres with panache, is a commendable feat.

In her own words: "I grew up with rich and melodious tunes of Bengali songs with its many facets. I have been training since I was six. However, I wanted to take my time and prepare myself to come to the forefront. I never believed in quick gains."

Shubarna's debut album, Aporoop Roop-e highlights the diversity of nature and the seasons of splendour. The audience also comes across an expert use of poetry throughout the album. Excerpts from poems have been selected as preludes to the songs. Combined they are put to make this Ode to Nature; a celebration of the six seasons.

While rendering the songs, the artiste experiments with different vocal styles. To the expert ear the changes in presentation are figured out instantly whereas an average listener finds her vocals simply soothing.
