Bar Council, SC Bar denied president's appointment

Bangabhaban yesterday refused to entertain the applications of Bangladesh Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) seeking to meet President Iajuddin Ahmed.It said the president is now in complete rest as per the advice of the doctors. Bar Council Vice-President Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud submitted an application on Wednesday for an appointment with the president to know his health condition, as confusion is rife over his present status. "No visitor is allowed to see the ailing president on advice of the medical board," the Bar Council vice-president told the UNB quoting a Bangabhaban telephonic message as saying in reply to his petition. In reply to the Bangabhaban phone call, Rokan said he has asked for a written letter of regret in this regard. The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) yesterday submitted an application seeking an appointment with the president. "We have told the SC Bar that nobody will now be allowed to see the president as he is in complete rest as advised by the doctors," Press Secretary to the President Mokhlesur Rahman Chowdhury said. He said the same policy is being followed for everybody. "Even the acting president and the ministers are also not meeting the president." The SC Bar in an emergency meeting on Thursday decided to meet the president to what they said know his physical condition and "take legal steps to protect the constitutional dignity and rights of the president."
