Indecent football

The Portugal versus Netherlands match in the Second Round of FIFA World Cup 2006 appalled us all. Russian referee V. Ivanov needs to be lambasted for his abysmal performance. He produced his yellow cards 16 times and red cards 4 times that was really unprecedented and objectionable. He failed to conduct the match smoothly. He provoked the players of both Portugal and Netherlands to be bellicose and intolerant by flashing his cards frequently. I was disgusted at the approach of Luis Figo, the skipper of Portugal. He behaved very aggressively and he failed to behave like a captain. Rather, he worsened the situation by head butting Dutch midfielder Mark Bommel. It proves that Luis Figo lacks sportsmanlike etiquette. Portuguese player Deco caught the ball without the instruction of the match referee that was really culpable and shocking. I was shocked when I saw Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the field in tears due to severe injury. I was astonished at the improprieties of Dutch and Portuguese players. Though Portugal won the match 1-0, it made a bad precedent in the football arena. It was a bizarre match.

FIFA should take some drastic and corrective steps to ward off further hullabaloo in the field.
