Five killed in city road accidents


Five people, including a minor boy, were killed in separate road accidents in the city and the suburbs yesterday.

Two goods-laden trucks collided head-on at Asadgate at around 6.15am, leaving two fish traders dead on the spot.

The identity of the dead could not be known immediately. Police seized the truck but the driver managed to escape.

Meanwhile, a two-year old boy was killed when a covered van rammed a rickshaw at South Syedabad.

Witnesses said the accident occurred when the van hit the rickshaw from behind carrying the boy around 9.00am .

A Dhaka-bound bus ran over a pedestrian while he was crossing the road at Abdullahpur at Keraniganj upazila.

The dead was identified as Royel Ahmed ,25,a cloth trader.

A schoolboy was crushed under the wheels of a bus in front of Bangla College at Mirpur when he was going to his residence in a rickshaw, police said.

The accident occurred at about 8:30pm when a minibus hit his rickshaw, leaving him dead on the spot.

The dead was identified as Towshikur Rahman Onoy, 13, a student of Monipur High School.
